I led two Mind Over Muscle self-defense workshops at Drew, one for the annual Block Party and one for International Day. I taught students, future students, and community members physical techniques, awareness, and confidence. Dozens of participants attended, and 100% reported that they improved their skills and would recommend the workshop. It was especially meaningful to give back to the community that has supported me since kindergarten.
At Drew, I have played lead roles in several school musicals, including the Wiz in The Wiz (9th grade), Iris Kelly in Fame (10th grade), and Doody in Grease (senior year). Performing has allowed me to connect with students across different grades, build lasting friendships, and gain confidence both on and off stage. Each musical has had its challenges, but sharing this experience with my friends has made it all worth it.
I played the Wiz
I played Iris Kelly
I will play Doody (a T-bird)
I have been part of Step Up throughout high school. I started as a participant and becoming an ambassador. I’ve traveled to cities like New York and Chicago to network with other participants and promote our chapter, and I’ve helped with community service projects at places like the Atlanta Community Food Bank and in the Drew neighborhood. As an ambassador, I planned meetings, led discussions, and led activities. This helped me gain confidence, leadership skills, and a new sisterhood.
I have participated in Drew’s music program throughout high school. I sung in chorus during 9th and 10th grade, played the harp in 11th grade, and performed in musical theater in 12th grade. I took part in multiple concerts, which gave me opportunities to express myself and share my love of music with the school community. Being part of these ensembles helped me build confidence, teamwork skills, and a deeper appreciation for music.
I have been part of the Drew family since kindergarten, and being here all these years has given me a community that feels like home. I am so grateful to have grown up with classmates, teachers, and mentors who have shaped me and supported me through every stage of my life. Sure, the dress code and cheesy sayings can be frustrating at times, but the people I’ve shared this journey with are truly irreplaceable.
