I wrote an essay giving advice to Will, the protagonist of Long Way Down.
I also performed a poem about the novel.
Finally, I wrote and performed a poem about myself.
In this essay, we were asked to describe the most heroic part of Sundiata's story. Sunidata Keita, also know as The Lion King, was the first king of the Mali Empire. He ruled from 1235 C.E. to 1255 C.E and he laid the foundation for the wealthy and powerful empire known as The Mali Empire.
I said that The Journey Begins is the most heroic part of the story because it demonstrates his kind heart, his selflessness, and his indefatigable spirit. To me, a hero is someone who helps those in need. They are kind, considerate, and inspiring. Sundiata embodied these heroic traits throughout everything he did, however, they stood out throughout this section of the story.
Here is my Malian Empire App. This project is a collaboration of Literature and Composition and Digital Technology. I read the story of Sundiata, the Lion King, and then I researched the Empire of Mali. I researched different Malian foods, different Malian tourist spots, and Ancient Mali. I used that information to create this app in Code.org.
Here is my Sundiata graphic novel page. If you have read my previous posts, you know that Sundiata, also known as the Lion King, was the first king of the Malian Empire. For this assignement, we were asked to pick a portion of the story entitled "Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali" and recreate it into a graphic novel page. My finished page is located to the left. My Artist statement, listing what scene from the book I chose and why, is located below.
Sundiata, also known as the Lion King, was the first ruler of the Malian Empire. He is an epic hero who will be known for his selflessness, undying perseverance, and his heart of gold. I chose the moment where Sundiata pulled the Baobab tree from the ground to get Baobab leaves for his mother. I chose this scene because it demonstrates Sundiata’s strength and kindness. Rather than revolting with his newfound strength, Sundiata decides to help his mother who, to his knowledge, previously hit him and yelled at him for no reason. I used images to retell the story by creatively illustrating the process of the story step by step using vibrant colors, dialogue, and geometric shapes. From my page, I want the reader to learn that the only limits you have are the ones you set for yourself.
