For this project we were asked to analyze a word problem describing Don Quixote and his horse. Then we were asked to create a digital poster analyzing the elements of the word problem and its trignometric applications.
Word problem: Don Quixote, delusional in his desert quest for adventure, spots a group of windmills in the distance. Mistaking them for giant monsters he decides to attack one of them. In an athletic move, he hops off his horse Rocinante and at a height of 3m, grabs hold of an “arm” at the lowest point in its rotation. The diameter of the windmill is 20m and it completes 1 rotation in exactly 12 seconds on a blustery day. Come up with a trigonometric equation to describe Don’s height (m) relative to time (s) – H(t) – and graph it over one full minute while also answering the following questions in complete sentences. Hint: draw a picture of the situation trying to fill in as much information as possible before graphing the sinusoidal wave.
For this assignment my classmates and I were asked to review the "slide and divide" method to factoring quadratics. Then, we were given a total of 12 polynomials to practice factoring while showing our work. Finally we were asked to type the factored form of each polynomial in the space provided for our digital activity to reveal the final pixelated image. View my final product on the left!
For this part of the project my fellow classmates and I reviewed our understanding of functions and their real world applications. Additionally we investigated how to model functions in terms of the sea level rise in coastal Georgia. We used tidal data from Fort Pulaski and used regression analysis to explain our findings. We also watched three videos which helped to give us additional information.
For this part of the project my fellow classmates and I explored how to model exponential functions using data from the sea level rise in coastal Georgia. For this half of the project specifically we used regression analysis to compare the verified and predicted sea water levels. We watched one video which helped to give us additional information.
Finally we used our slideshow to make a final video presentation. Click play on the right to watch!
