Student Engagement

Student Engagement Norms

Students need to be engaged in the learning process.  It does not matter if we are presenting instructional content to adults or to a class of kindergarteners.  Engagement is a key factor to any lesson.

Student engagement is created when a teacher asks a student to do something.  When presenting content to an entire class, teachers must use specific strategies to engage the entire class in the learning process.

Decreasing Disruptive behavior

Engagement is one of the ways that teachers can help control disruptive behavior in the classroom.  When students are excited and ready to learn the material being presented, the urge to cause an issue tends to go away.  When the expectations of the students and the teacher are both on learning, students are not focused on disruptive behaviors.
