Coordinating Battle Plans

Objective

Teachers will know how to prepare a curriculum composed of units that focus on priority standards and result in impactful learning.

Directions

After reading the objective, read the topics that will be covered in this section.

The three pages that follow this page will provide videos and information about instruction and options for unit planning, pacing guides, and teacher-student relationships.  Watch all videos on each page and read through the information and the research provided.  This information will help you to complete the reflection activities.

After you complete the three sections (Gather Your Resources, Pacing Guide for Attack, and Know Your Troops), you will need to complete the reflections in your electronic notebook.

What is Rigous Curriculum Design?

Watch the video as Larry Ainsworth presents a brief overview of the Rigorous Curriculum Design process to help guide your planning of instructional content.

Zombie Survival Guide: Know Your Terrain

Answer these questions in the Zombie Survival Guide. An important part of teaching is understanding your standards.  What are you required to teach?  What does mastery look like?  What materials will you use?  How much time do you spend on each standard?  These questions have to be answered for a teacher to understand what is going to be presented in the classroom. A way to begin this process is to select priority standards.

Read "Why Priority Standards" and watch the video of Ainsworth discussing priority standards. Once you finish watching the video, complete the Priority Standards Zombie Notebook Reflection. After you finish your reflections, you may move on to the next page.

How to Determine Your Priority Standards

Priority Standards Zombie Notebook Reflection

Look at your English standards. Find one standard that you could name as a priority standard. In your notebook list the standard and brainstorm a unit that you could design around that standard.
