John Hattie's  Meta-Analysis of the Effect of Teacher-Student Relationships

Teacher-Student Relationships

The relationships a teacher creates between the teacher and the students and between students and their peers have a tremendous impact on learning.  Teacher knowledge of students is a leading indicator of student success.

John Hattie gave effect sizes for nine different teacher-student variables (Hattie, 2009, p. 119)

Hattie's meta-analysis indicated that teachers who built relationships with students and were focused on the students and not only the content created classrooms where students were engaged and learning.

After reviewing the meta-analysis and graph created by Hattie, watch the video, "Effective Student-Teacher Relationships".

Know Your Troops Zombie Notebook Reflection

After you review the material and watch the video, go to the Zombie Reflection Notebook and reflect on the following questions. How do you build credibility and trust in your classroom between you as the teacher and the students and between the students and their peers? How do your ideas of engagement align or differ with John Hattie's ideas?
