Solar Family -
As the new school year kicks off with excitement and anticipation, I want to take a moment to thank you all for your generosity over the past 7 years.
When Solar Prep for Girls was founded, it became apparent that this type of innovative school model would cost significantly more than our neighborhood schools. Because of our focus on STEAM and SEL education and our 50/50 socioeconomic diversity model, it takes approximately $250,000 in additional funds each year, to provide everything students experience at each of our campuses. Our 501(c)3 foundation Friends of Solar Prep (FOSP) exists - to fundraise for student enrichment initiatives and programs and support our world-class educators through professional development. We fundraise from outside grantors, education foundations and most importantly, our parent community.
As we begin this new year, I look forward to our parent community supporting us again! We appreciate all levels of gifts, no amount is too big or too small.
Every dollar given during North Texas Giving Day goes directly towards the initiatives and items that Solar Prep has become known for: our Makerspace, our classroom supplies (so that teachers aren’t spending their own dollars), our beloved House system, enrichment field trips and much, much more. A complete list of items funded over the years can be found on the FOSP website and last year’s funding is summarized in the graphic below.
Today, we are kicking off our annual North Texas Giving Day Campaign with an ask from our parent community. We must raise $537,000 for both Solar Prep for Girls and Solar Prep for Boys campuses this year, and we can’t do it without your generous support.
I am so proud of what we’ve been able to offer our Solar Trailblazers over the last 8 years - our scholars and teachers have soared to new heights in big part thanks to the higher level resources we’ve provided through our foundation. And we are at a critical juncture in our Solar journey. We’ve just graduated our inaugural 8th grade class who began last week at some of the country’s top high schools and we are excited to continue to create an experience for our Trailblazers like none other. Where students feel both joy and challenge, passion, commitment and curiosity!
Let’s keep up the Solar momentum as we move into the next week of school! Give HERE now or on North Texas Giving Day on September 21, 2023.
