A message from Principal  Santos ...

April is in full swing and tomorrow is Eclipse Day! Make sure to read your grade level's newsletter for more information on student safety and parent support. Students may wear hats and bring sunscreen if desired. Each grade level will let you know if a blanket or towel may be brought as well. We appreciate your support in reminding students how to stay safe!

This week is also the first week of STAAR testing. 3rd-8th graders will be taking their reading test. While it is a significant milestone to reach in this year, our students have been doing such an amazing job in reading and writing and have been out-performing the district by leaps and bounds and we are so excited to watch them shine! We will continue to remind them that what counts is their best effort! Please ensure your child gets enough sleep, has a calm environment and a lot of smiles, hugs and encouraging words leading up to their assessment day.

A HUGE thank you to our Solar PTA and all who helped us make the Talent Show possible this weekend. We appreciate your support and we cannot thank you enough! From poetry to playwrights, singing and dancing it was a afternoon filled with brave Trailblazers eager to let their light shine!

HAVE AN INCREDIBLE WEEK!

Dear Parents and Families,

You may have heard there is quite a bit of excitement as we eagerly await Solar Eclipse Day on Monday, April 8. Dallas ISD is gearing up for this extraordinary learning opportunity, and we anticipate many will be drawn to North Texas to witness the full eclipse.

Across the district, students are provided the chance to experience this celestial event from their campus. Each student will be provided safety glasses to ensure they can safely observe the eclipse. It's an incredible opportunity for them to witness the wonders of the universe firsthand.

I encourage you to take a moment to talk to your child about the importance of wearing these safety glasses– they are not just accessories but essential tools to ensure their eyes are protected. We will also review the importance of this pratice at school and opportunities for volunteers to help with this experience will be sent out by each grade level.

With the anticipated influx of visitors to the area, there may be some transportation delays in high-traffic areas. In the event of bus delays, we appreciate your patience patience. Utilize our transportation app for real-time updates.

Additionally, to help alleviate potential traffic concerns, we kindly request if you need to check your child out for any reason that day, please do so between 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. (The absence policy will not change on this day.)

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we prepare for this exciting day. Let's make it a memorable experience for our students.

Please review grade level newsletters for a Google Form to confirm your scholar's participation intentions.

THE THEATRE DEPARTMENT IS SO EXCITED TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENT. CHECK THE PTA WEBSITE FOR TICKETS AND FOLLOW US @SOLARGIRLSTHEATRE ON INSTAGRAM FOR MORE DETAILS.

At Solar Prep for Girls our uniform policy includes a very specific dress code. We believe that if a student is dressed for success they will feel confident which positively impacts academic performance. Our hope is that our uniform creates a sense of pride for our school and our school community. We appreciate your support in ensuring your student comes to school dressed appropriately and ready to engage in learning.

We will continue providing feedback to students out of dress code to ensure a safe and inclusive environment.
