PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Solar Family -

We are gearing up for our teachers to return next week and we could not be more excited to come together as a family!

I am excited to finally be able to announce two of the newest members of our Solar family, our new assistant principals! They have hit the ground running in preparing for the year and both look forward to meeting our amazing community at the Meet the Teacher Nights! More information to come this week about our amazing Solar Trailblazer staff!

Check out information below from PTA and YMCA sports. We are ready to get this year started!

A Dallas native with two decades in education, Meliton Velasquez grew up as the youngest of seven siblings with five sisters and one brother. He began his educational journey at James Bowie, Barbara Jordan Elementary, Atwell Middle School and Skyline High School.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington. After graduating, two of his sisters, who were educators, suggested that he pursue teaching and he has not looked back. Mr. Velasquez taught Kindergarten- 5th grade and high school special education in both Dallas ISD and Mesquite ISD. He earned a Master of Education in Administration from Texas Woman’s University. He was an instructional coach at Ben Milam Elementary and an Assistant Principal at Bayles Elementary. His true joy has come from the students who have gone on to become accomplished adults and great contributors to the Dallas community. He credits his success to people like Principal Santos who have encouraged and inspired him to grow beyond his comfort zone.

"As educators, one of our most important roles is to inspire and push our students to their potential and to show them what is possible. I believe that Solar Prep for Girls is a school that is setting the bar and pushing all educators across Dallas to want to become better, dream bigger and go beyond what is expected and I am excited to be a part of that."

Mr. Velasquez has two boys, Diego and Lorenzo. He enjoys hiking and camping with them in his free time.

A North Texas native, and life-long educator, Lorrie Davis grew up in tight-knit Plano, Texas with her parents and three siblings. Ms. Davis wanted to become a teacher in 3rd grade. She was inspired by her teacher, Mrs. Stewart, who made learning even the most challenging subjects fun while encouraging her students to reach their potential.

Ms. Davis attended the University of North Texas for her undergraduate degree where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Throughout college, Ms. Davis worked as an educator in both public and private schools. Upon graduating she joined Dallas ISD and became an elementary school teacher at Paul Dunbar Learning Center and MLK Arts Academy where she contributed to the efforts to become a choice campus. Ms. Davis earned a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education in Administration from Texas A&M Commerce. She served as an Assistant Principal at Holland Elementary and looks forward to be able to serve the amazing community of Solar Preparatory School for Girls.

"I am thrilled to join the Solar Prep for Girls team. Inspiring and leading women has always been a passion of mine. The family atmosphere and the culture that has been created within the staff and community at Solar is beyond anything I have seen before in education."

Ms. Davis has a stepson Connor and a beautiful newborn daughter Harper. She enjoys cheering on the Cowboys, trying new restaurants, and decorating her home for every holiday!
