A message from Principal  Santos...

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2024, let us take some time to reflect on the significance and our personal responsibility to continue the pursuit of equity and excellence for all.

This year, Solar Prep for Girls were fortunate enough to be selected as the first school school in Dallas ISD to take part in the Racial Equity Now cohort alongside leaders from our own Dallas ISD Office of Racial Equity. This experience has been truly transformational as we learned alongside and made connections with non-profit organizations from all over the DFW Metroplex seeking to become more reflective and intentional about their racial equity practices. Upon completion of this program, we were awarded $10,000 to continue this critical work. We look forward to sharing this work with you and continuing to grow as an organization and we appreciate all of your support.

At the end of the day, we want to ensure that our practices reflect our values each and every day - rather than in bits and pieces of Instagram-worthy micro-moments. Of all the work that we engage in, this is truly the most challenging and yet the most critical for our school as we set the model for possibility in education. Our racial equity policy statement below is just one of the first steps to creating a more inclusive community.

We have made many strides AND there is still so much more to be done.

We also want to celebrate our very own 5th grade Trailblazer, Michelle N. who was a finalist in this years' MLK Oratory Competition. We are so proud of her confidence and hard work which gave us the opportunity to kick-off MLK weekend with some truly inspiring words spoken on the very stage that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stood 60 years ago. Congratulations Michelle! A HUGE thank you to her teachers and Ms. Hailey, her coach!

This week clubs will resume for most. Please see the flyer below. If your child's club will not continue for the spring or if your child would like to add or change a club please click on the flyer to fill out the the club request form.

We have quite a few additions to our upcoming events. Our goal moving into this new year will be to communicate events at least 10 days in advance and the Upcoming Events section of this publication will be the place to get the most up to date upcoming events.
