I began teaching at Lykins Elementary in the spring of 2024. I loved the sense of community and the excitement each new day brought. I am thrilled to return and look forward to a wonderful year.
Before receiving my teaching certification in Special Education, I worked in various capacities – most recently as an attorney. As an attorney, I’m trained in advocacy and firmly believe every child should be empowered to self-advocate.
My wife, Kristi, and I are native Texans; parents to three school-age boys, two cats, and a Goldendoodle; and we love the outdoors.
We are also very proud parents of a child diagnosed with autism. My relationship with my son was transformed by a change in the way I communicated with him. I sincerely believe in the power of communication to effect positive change and strive to make a communication connection with every child.
Meet the Teacher will be on Monday, August 11th.
What to do before Meet The Teacher:
Please label the following items with your child's name: scissors, school supply box, composition books, headphones, folders.
A daily folder will usually be sent home with your child. Please check this folder each day for important communications such as daily notes, behavior insights, and other important information.
The folder should also be used to send notes and other information to the school.
Your student will have their own individual schedule that will include:
lunch/recess time
specials time (P.E., Art, Music, Technology)
Core Subjects (Math, Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies)
Children often require a change of clothes during the school day. There are many reasons for this: spilled drink or food, unexpected soiling, a vibrant recess, and so on.
Please keep at least one Ziplock bag of extra clothes in your child's backpack at all times. Check the backpack each afternoon to see whether or not clothes were changed that day.
I keep some extra things on hand, but there's no guarantee that they'll be a great fit and they will almost certainly not be fashionable. Please return loaner clothes the next day if possible. I'll launder them.
Please include:
underwear
socks
shirt
pants
shoes
Your child will need a snack each day. You may pack a snack daily or send several snacks for the week - just let us know so that we plan accordingly.
Your child needs to stay hydrated, so please send a water bottle each day. Students are able to refill their bottles in the school's water filtration fountains as needed. Plus, refilling water bottles is a wonderful learning activity for our kids, so please send a bottle.
