Hi! My name is Alekhya Mandapaka (tough to pronounce I know) and I am a senior at Clarkstown North High School. I joined Science Research during my junior year of high school and since then have developed important skills when it comes to understanding scientific papers and communicating with people and peers in the realm of science.
During the summer of 2020, I was accepted into the Boston University Research in Science and Engineering Program. In particular I was a part of the Computational Neurobiology Practicum Track where we were taught Python coding and used models that we coded to conduct an experiment. My group's presentation and poster is below.
The Chemical Composition and Related Health Impacts of Black, Green, and White Tea
This past semester, Dr. Schuchman asked us to research an obscure and interesting topic, and I chose tea. This is my review on tea, and it focuses on tea's antioxidant properties while comparing the potency of those properties within the different types of tea.
This fall I will be attending Penn State University as part of the Acceleration Premedical-Medical Program which is offered with Sidney Kimmel Medical School. I will spend three years studying premed at Penn State and four years at SKMC pursuing my medical degree. My dream is to become a surgeon and use my knowledge to serve underserved and underrepresented populations of the world and my inspiration is a doctor named Paul Farmer, who played an important role in revolutionizing Haiti's healthcare systems. I hope to follow in his footstep sand my make my mark on the world by changing the communities around me.
