I am a senior, passionate about biology and the environment. My focus is on the influence of various milkweed species on monarch butterflies. I formed my own independent experiment in which I raised and studied monarchs and their interactions with milkweed sources. I measured their growth rate, survival rate, coloration, and various other factors. Through my research, I discovered that common and swamp milkweed are the best choices, but a biodiverse environment is key. To aid my research, I have met with conservationists at Butterfly World in Florida as well as Mr.O'Donell from the Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm. Monarchs are complex and delicate creatures that function in mysterious ways. It is of utmost importance to protect and conserve their environment.
