A Review of the Sustainable Electrification of Sub-Saharan Africa: Focusing on the case of Burkina Faso with regards to sources, systems, and impacts
A Review of Garbage: Focusing on collection, separation, disposal, and alternatives, with particular attention to plastic
About Me:
As an individual, my life's focus is serving others (although not so much medically, I really don't have the stomach for that). The research topics that I am most interested in reflects that. I'm interested in introducing technology that has the potential to enormously improve people's lives, whether it be through water purification or waste disposal systems, or introducing something so complex as electricity, that we take for granted everyday, to people who struggle with things as basic as getting enough to eat. Introducing electricity to community's that suffer from very big problems such as malnourishment may seem like a very inappropriate way to relieve their pain, but electricity has a capacity to provide new solutions unlike many other things. Electricity grants the gifts of light, education, power tools, refrigeration, advanced medical technologies, the list goes on. With so much potential, electricity does not simply provide a way to charge a phone or an electric car to people who write letters and travel on the backs of animals. Electricity has the power to expand daylight, to produce geniuses of innovation, to build walls and dig wells, to freeze and to burn, and to heal the sick. With so much to offer, electricity does not merely charge the devices we already have, but can improve our very way of life. It is that life change which has fueled my research into electrical systems. It's also worth mentioning that my love for animals and the environment is greater than my love for technology, and so, my research further reflects my desire to conserve and protect our beautiful planet and all of the life upon it. Finally, I am an optimist. Hence why I continue to research solutions rather than mourn what others accept has unavoidable defeats.
My Experience:
I have been a part of the science research class for three years, and in that time I have had the opportunity to learn, not only subject material as any class can teach you, but also practical skills. In a modern world where we must scrutinize our sources to be able to evaluate the accuracy of the information within, it is more important than ever that students, the future of our world, be able to seek out reliable sources, construct information from data, and determine what is truly the best solution to the problems we face. It is those skills which this class has equipped me with that will be valuable to me not only in college, but for the rest of my life.
