Hi, my name is Hannah Meyers, and I'm currently a Senior at North. Over the past three years, I have read dozens of articles and experimented with different topics. After encountering a pivotal roadblock at the end of my junior year, I redirected my focus toward a critical global issue: infant mortality rates. This shift inspired me to delve into a research project examining Infant Mortality in Select Countries Between 2018, 2019, and 2021.
During my sophomore and junior years, I originally focused on In Vitro Fertilization techniques such as OPU (Ovum Pick-Up) and how it affected oocyte quality. Here is an article pertaining to my topic during the beginning of my research process.
Delving into more research, I started to explore the data behind biological phenomenon's pertaining to the research I had already done. I wanted something that combined my love of math and statistics with reproduction and fertility. I decided the best way to do this was to do my own analysis on infant mortality rates, utilizing both math and science.
My main research questions while completing this project were:
What is the infant mortality rate in France, Poland, Spain, Cuba, Guatemala, and Ecuador for 2018, 2019, and 2021?
Is there a significant difference in infant mortality based on gender?
Is there a significant difference in infant mortality based on a country's socioeconomic status?
Is there a significant difference in infant mortality pre-COVID vs. post-COVID?
