Answer these questions:
Which house looks the most comfortable?
Which house looks the safest?
Which house looks the least safe?
Which house looks most like a home?
As a class, create a mind map of all the words you relate to the word 'home'.
Home is a place where we feel safe, loved and secure. It's a place where we belong.
Israel had not had their own home for a very long time. God was now going to give them a home where they could belong and feel safe, loved and secure.
This Promised Land home - called Canaan - was to be in the middle of a main road between two big nations of the day: Egypt and Mesopotamia.
God wanted Israel to live in this special land so they could be a witness for Him. They would have a big chance to influence the whole world.
God wanted the Israelites to show His love and power to everyone who didn't believe in Him!
Why was this area of land known to the people as the Promised Land?
Promised by whom? To whom? When?
Why would God give such a promise? Was God just giving them a nice sage home, or was His dream bigger than this?
Read Genesis 15:18 about God's promise to Abram (who became Abraham).
Teaching Point: God's people had a very special job to do in being in Canaan. This is captured in Treasure Verse A: Deuteronomy 7:6
The teacher will bring out a box. We will open it and find out what is inside.

What's the most daring thing you've ever tried?

Discuss:
How would you feel as:
Joshua
A Priest
One of the Israelites
Watch from 16:40

So far we have learnt about the messages of different objects surrounding the Israelite's entry into the Promised Land.
The message of the altar stone is: God wants me to remember His kind acts
The message of the red cord is: God wants to give me a lifeline
Today we are going to examine the message of the rubble...
The message of the rubble is: God wants to fix all my challenges
Here is a song about the fall of Jericho that you may like to sing and dance along to:
We have been looking at the messages that the Israelites learnt as they entered their new home in the Promised Land. Can you work out what the message of the home might be:
God wants me to remember His kind acts.
God wants to fix all my challenges.
God wants to give me a lifeline.
God wants to help me feel loved and secure.
Write the messages out in your neatest handwriting, remembering your exit hooks. Illustrate them.
Build your own wall with play dough or blocks, and see how tall you can make it. Say the message of the rubble before knocking your wall down! Sing "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho" again: Song
Create your own memorial to remember an important event in your life. You can make it out of stones, blocks, craft materials or draw it. Write down what you want to remember and why. Say the message of the stones.
Imagine living in a wall like Rahab did! Draw or build an amazing house that you would love to live in - let your imagination go wild! When you have completed it, say out loud the messages of the red cord and the home. Take a picture of your house and send it to us.
