During the week of November 18th, Kelly's No Place for Hate Committee worked with Kelly Staff to introduce the No Place for Hate Pledge. Our NPFH committee filmed a video reading the pledge. This was shown in each classroom. Then, teachers invited students to sign the pledge. The banner is displayed each classroom.
Compassion Day was held on December 13th at Kelly. No Place for Hate Committee members will help with the setup of the activities and will also help run the activities. Additionally, committee members came up with the idea of students receiving "Compassion Coupons." These are similar to Kelly's "Cougar Coupons" that students receive when following the Cougar Code. Compassion Cougars will also be available for use at the Cougar Store. Additionally, students will be able to enter a raffle with their coupons to have lunch with the principal.
In response to student reports of unkind comments, the school counselor and No Place for Hate Committee presented to each classroom in the school lessons on inclusion through the reading of "Where Oliver Fits" with a follow up discussion and classroom activity. For the activity, students created a class puzzle with each student decorating their puzzle piece and displaying it on the class wall.
Kelly's No Place for Hate Committee introduced the new Speak Up Posters to staff and provided examples on how they could be used on campus if unkind words are spoken. The committee created a video that modeled how students could speak up if they heard unkind words that teachers could show students. The committee hopes to improve the climate survey data point of 88% of students feeling like others would help them if others were causing problems for the.
