Every student on campus listened to the book, “The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be” by Joanna Gaines. Each classroom had a discussion on ways that they are different from each other. Students talked with each other on ways that their hot air balloons would be small or big, what color they would be, where they would fly their hot air balloons, and more! After they listened to the story and had their discussion, they were introduced to the pledge and pledge to be a part of making Hope Elementary a No Place for Hate school. Students then signed a poster of the cover of the book that will be hung in the MPR.
Each classroom on campus will participate in a lesson on what bullying is and how to be a kind friend. The activity is to spread awareness of what bullying is and being able to identify different situations where students might be experiencing bullying. For kindergarten, students will listen to “Recess Queen” and discuss how students can be kind on the playground and how being a bully will affect how other people might not want to play with you. 1st-3rd graders will have a discussion on how to be a buddy, not a bully and then will create tee shirt designs that will be displayed in their classrooms. 4th-5th graders will engage in a discussion on the differences between bullying, a conflict, and a mean moment and how we can use those discussions to help bullying stop on campus.
Through the school broadcasting class, HopeTV, No Place for Hate committee members shared with the school ways to interrupt, question, educate, and echo when students and staff hear harassment and/or bullying on campus.
Each classroom on campus participated in Compassion Day which is a day for each student to experience what it is like to have a disability like dyslexia, autism, blindness, etc. There are five stations for students run by adults and members of our NPFH committee.
