How to create your Shiftboard account

Step 0: Make Sure you Don't Already Have A Shiftboard Account

To do that, go to www.shiftboard.com and try to log in.

If you don't have a Shiftboard account, or want to apply to new teams, it's time to fill out the Volunteer Questionnaire! To do that, log in to your Burner Profile at profiles.burningman.org. This drops you into your Burner Profile, and should look pretty familiar to you. From here, click on "Participation Forms" under Sparkly Things.

This takes you to the Participate! page, and which has the Volunteer Questionnaire as the middle option.

The whole Volunteer Questionnaire should take you about 3-5 minutes. This is where you apply to teams. If you don't have a Shiftboard account, it will create one.

Just follow the steps in the Volunteer Questionnaire. This will take your info from Burner Profiles and automatically route it through. Be sure to select the team you want to work with! If your team isn't visible, it's either not in the questionnaire, or it's not available right now. Some teams fill up quickly, others have lengthy training sessions and only accept people in certain parts of the year, and some don't take first-timers. If you know the team you want to join isn't on here, contact your Volunteer Coordinator and ask them.

The Volunteer Questionnaire is pretty straight-forward, so I won't give you detailed pictures and all that. Email teamtools@burningman.org if you can't figure it out.

When you're finished with the Volunteer Questionnaire, it does a number of things. It lets your Volunteer Coordinator know you filled it out; it sets up your Shiftboard account; and it ties your Shiftboard account to your Burner Profile. That means that you never need to update your information on your Shiftboard account! Just update your Burner Profile, and it'll update the Shiftboard account automatically.

Shiftboard does not send you a welcome email, so just go back to Step 0, and click the log-in button, and then click Forgot Password under the login field. That'll send you a reset link, and you're off to the races! You'll get an email when you're added to a group.

You might already be on some teams! Specifically, many teams that you select in the Volunteer Questionnaire will stick you into an intake team. This is normal. It's not the main team that shifts happen in, but it lets your new Volunteer Coordinators find you and easily add you to the main team. If you've used Shiftboard before, you might find you're on some teams from the past! If you already had a Shiftboard account and filled out the Volunteer Questionnaire again, no matter it'll update your existing account, but won't create a new one.
