Matt Newton

Coach Newton has been the Head Coach of the Lady Cavaliers since 2015. Previous to that he assisted former Head Coach Stan Golan for five years.   Mr. Newton is a CTE instructor at JF, teaching Economics, Personal Finance and Computer Information Systems .

Newton has taken the Cavaliers to the VHSL Group 4A tournament each of the past two seasons and led JF to the VHSL 4A State title in 2017, the first state championship in the program's history.  He earned 4A Coach of the Year honors in that season. He's been on the staff at Jefferson Forest since 2010.

Newton is also an Assistant Coach for the University Lynchburg Women's Soccer Team, one of the most successful teams in NCAA Division III, joining Dr. Todd Olsen's staff in 2018.

Newton was selected VHSL 4A Coach of the Year in 2017, Region Coach of the Year in 2017, 18, 19, Conference COY in 2016, and Seminole District COY in 2016 and '17.  He holds an Advanced Regional Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches association.

Newton is originally from Roanoke, Virginia where he attended and played soccer for Hidden Valley High School, as well as Roanoke Star for nine years.

Newton is a 2011 graduate of Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in Religion.  He earned his master's degree in Pastoral Counseling from that institution in 2015 and has since served as an Adjunct Instructor in Liberty's College of General Studies.  

Newton lives in Bedford with his wife Abby and their two sons.
