Bryan Munson

Bryan Munson is entering his seventh year as the Head Coach of the Jefferson Forest Forensics Team, and was the Head JF Debate Coach for three years.   He has served as a Forensics and Debate Coach for over 15 years in different schools. He has also coached Model United Nations and Scholastic Bowl teams.

A native of Houston, Texas, Mr. Munson worked as a newspaper journalist at the Waco Tribune Herald and The Houston Post  for seven years as a copy editor and a music and concert freelance writer. He taught high school AP and IB English, Journalism, Mass Media, Science Fiction, and Creative Writing in the States (Houston, TX; Richmond, KY; Midlothian, VA) and overseas (Daejeon, South Korea; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Shanghai, China; Copenhagen, Denmark) before coming to Jefferson Forest High School in 2016.

Mr. Munson graduated from Baylor University in 1982, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.  In 1989 he earned a Masters in Education from the University of Houston.  He graduated high school from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston in 1978.

Mr. Munson and Jennie, his wife of 33 years, currently live in ForestThey have three children: Rachel (married to Johnzelle Andersen, with granddaughter Mya Jayn) Hannah (married to Ryan Lee, with granddaughters Aviva Harriet and another due in October 2022), and Nathan (JF Debate Coach, married Haley).

NATHAN MUNSON

Nathan Munson is in his fourth year as the Head Jefferson Forest Debate Coach.

Mr. Munson has five years of teaching experience including four years as an Instructional Technology Coach or ITC.

Mr. Munson graduated high school from the Concordia International School in Shanghai, China in 2013, where he competed in forensics for two years placing first and second in the international competition held overseas. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Middle School English Education from Liberty University in 2017 and is currently finishing up his Masters of Theatre degree at Regent University.

Mr. Munson current resides in Rustburg with his wife, Haley, and their adorable beagle, Butterscotch.

Raymond Smith

Raymond Smith is in his second year as the assistant debate coach at JF, having started during the 2020-2021 school year. Previously he served as the Student Congress Consultant during the 2019-2020 school year.

Mr. Smith graduated from JF in 2019. During his time at JF he was actively involved in the theater program and student congress. Mr. Smith has served in a variety of advisory positions for BCPS from COVID task forces to Superintendent’s Advisory. While obtaining his Bachelors in

Mr. Smith is currently a social studies teacher at Forest Middle School as well as a part time PA announcer for JF Sports. 

Mr. Smith was the first student to participate in student congress at JF within the last 10 years and has worked to expand the program and provide a high-quality team of competitors. He specializes in Robert’s Rules of Order, Congressional Procedure, Bill Writing, and Oratory. With his love of history, political science, debate, and performance, Mr. Smith endeavors to make each student a high caliber competitor in Student Congress, Debate, and Life.

Mr. Smith currently resides in Goode with his family. He enjoys spending his time working with local community theater organizations, traveling to historical sites, and enjoying local theater.
