Service is an adventurous step towards helping others and the community. Through seeing the challenges and hardships of others, Junior Caroline Kammerer is working to help bring awareness about homelessness right in our community.
“I am very passionate about serving those who are homeless in our community. Many people don’t realize how severe the problem is and how these people are living. I believe that it’s important for us to use what we’ve been given to help others,” Kammerer said.
The impact service has on people can be life changing for both sides.
“I feel like service gives you something emotionally that other activities can’t. Knowing that I can help someone no matter how close or far away it means a lot that I can help them in some way,” Kammerer said.
Homelessness can happen to anyone at anytime. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, in 2018 records show that the United States approximately 552,830 people are experiencing homelessness.
“I feel like homelessness is an issue that can be overlooked sometimes. I feel like people don’t realize that homelessness is an issue that is right near us in Hamilton and I want to help serve others in our community,” Kammerer said.
All around there are several nonprofit agencies working to help those in need whether that be helping them directly or indirectly. Though no matter the action big or small can have a big impact on others.
“Mark Mills at Helping Hamilton Ministries is my favorite place to serve at. We’ve worked with them before with Magnified Giving and I like his approach he has to help others,” Kammerer said.
Using our gifts and talents can make others see the world differently and give them hope that they can overcome the stage that they are at in life.
“It’s really important for us to realize what we have been given and that others might not have the same opportunities that we have,” Kammerer said.
