The ladies asked the lads to the Sadie Hawkin's dance on Saturday. The Sadie Hawkin’s dance is a fun tradition where the girls get to ask the boys to a dance for once.
However, the dance happened to fall the same night as the boys basketball team’s first tournament game against Roger Bacon. Many people saw this as a conflict, but some like junior Andrew Larkin didn’t seem to mind.
“I was actually pretty excited that Sadie’s was on the same night as the game because it solved group problems for me,” Larkin said.
Unfortunately, the Rams lost that tournament game. This led to lower spirits for some of the boys at the dance.
“For me and my teammates I thought that the dance was less fun,” Larkin said.
Some students tried to balance both events on the same night, but not all were able to. Many spectators, players and cheerleaders had to arrive at the dance late due to this conflict.
“I think it was a weird time with a lot going on in every student's lives. There were a lot of seniors who couldn’t make it. It was at an inconvenient time,” senior Caitlyn Conrad said.
Regardless of conflict, the dance was still able to be successful.
“We still had a really big turn out and sold a lot of tickets despite the basketball game tonight. People seemed to be happy with the music,” Conrad said.
Aside from being a girls-ask-guys dance, another thing is different about this dance-- freshman are allowed to come.
“It’s nice that freshman get to come to this dance because it’s kind of formal and lets us know what it’s like to be at a high school dance. It was awkward at first because we were the first people here and we didn’t really know what to do but once more people came it was really fun,” freshman Madeline DeLong said.
Overall, it was still another successful dance for the books.
“I was happy with the dance and I liked how the decorations turned out. I’m happy with it,” Conrad said.
