Interactional Purpose of Pause Reduction in a Chinese Reality Television Show
The paper analyzes where pauses occur syntactically in a two-minute segment of Chinese spoken data, and furthermore seeks to understand the sociopragmatic effects and how social interactional expectations and functions can cause an otherwise syntactically expected pause to be omitted in a conversation.
