Japanese L2 Student Awareness of Semantic Kanji Components
L2 acquisition of kanji remains understudied. Kanji contain semantic components which may be pictographic or abstract. Research suggests concrete concepts are more easily recalled than abstract ones. This paper presents initial findings from a study on Japanese L2 students’ recall of kanji compared to the type of semantic component.
