Graphic Design Certificate

The Graphic Design Certificate is designed for students with an interest in exploring graphic design with an emphasis on print media. Participants employ analog and digital processes and may elect to work across disciplines as they develop a portfolio of work that represents their personal voice and demonstrates the technical, critical, and analytical skills required of the field.

• • The reference to print media refers to an emphasis on design for printed material such as posters, brochures, cards, books, stickers, etc. In short, anything that is physically printed. The design principles, software, and much of the process can also be applied to web design and design for digital output.

Students enrolled in the Graphic Design Certificate should have access to a Mac or PC computer with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop installed. Before starting this program, students should feel comfortable navigating the directory structure and creating, deleting, renaming, and moving files and directories without assistance.

In the Graphic Design Certificate, students are required to complete a total of 6 required courses:

• One Required Course: Introduction to Graphic Design

  • 1. 1. 1. • Students who would like to complete the non-credit Fashion certificate program are required to take Introduction to Graphic Design at SAIC. Students who have prior Graphic Design knowledge often find that, although they are familiar with some of the material covered in the course, their understanding, skills, and confidence are reinforced and expanded upon through participation in this course.

• Four 30-hour Studio Courses under Certificate Graphic Design at continuingstudies.saic.edu.

• One 30-hour Elective. All 30-hour Adult Continuing Education courses are eligible electives for all certificates, including 1-week and 2-weekend intensives
