Conclusion
Write a statement that summarises the main trends of your experiment
You may find it useful to restate the research question and then answer it
Write a statement on whether you are accepting or rejecting your hypothesis - and to what extent you accept or reject
- Restate the RQ and hypothesis - Answer this using your results
- Use ‘Does/Does not’ support my hypothesis
- You must reference processed data from graphs and tables to help you explain your conclusion
- Summary of important trends and findings must be made
- Highlight main limitations and give a realistic improvement
Give a Brief Scientific explanation of the results and link this to the background information
Evaluation
Evaluate random biological variation, measurement/ instrument errors, systematic errors in terms of:
- Possible effect on data
- Significance of the weakness or limitation in terms of the data set
- Explanation if reliability of results
- Is the data sufficient to address the RQ?
- Was the range of the IV appropriate?
- Reference error bars or STDEV to address variation in results
- Analysis of reliability of results (R2)
- Identify and explain Anomalies
- Refer to your quantitative data when discussing this
Improvements
For each weakness/ limitation mentioned how could improved experimental design remove or reduce the impact of the error in terms of:
- Techniques used to collect and record data, including precision of equipment
- Design of the investigation, including range of values chosen and repeats of each IV data point
- More data, repeats &/or calculating averages
- Realistic , but not simplistic, improvements
