How to Request a Professional Judgment

 What is a "Professional Judgment"? 

• A "Professional Judgment" Request is a request to adjust information on your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) due to "Special Circumstances" or "Unusual Circumstances."

  • Special Circumstances: refers to the current financial situation (i.e. loss of job, high medical expenses, etc.) of the student, parent, and/or student's spouse. 

  • Unusual Circumstances: commonly referred to as a "Dependency Override". Refers to adjusting a student's dependency status based on a unique situation (i.e. incarceration, parental abandonment, human trafficking, refugee or asylee status, etc.). 

How to Make a Professional Judgment Request

• Complete the following Professional Judgment Request form

  • Complete in full;

  • Upload ALL pertinent documentation to this form;

  • DO NOT send documentation through email, as it is not secure

If we do not have enough documentation to approve your request, we will reach out for further documentation. An "Approval" is not guaranteed.
