TEAM EvCC (July 20 - July 22)

Post date: Jul 23, 2015 1:49:28 AM

7/20/15

Water: Upon arrival water level was 26 inches.

Issues: The smell in the rat room is atrocious. (Still.) There are now 4 Glade Plug-Ins on the ground floor to combat the malodor. There are 2 in the Rat Room. There is one in the left and the right outlets framing the door to outside (directly outside the Rat Room.) They are super obvious and impossible to miss. Once they are empty, refill or store in the Darkroom.

Computer Quirks:

11:30 PM - Tracking stopped. Rebooted GTCC.

12:00 PM - Finally got the telescope focused and tracking working again.

1:30 AM - While slewing to NGC 6545, a 4-in disc of aluminum fell off the telescope, didn't see where it fell from. I believe it's sitting on the desk where you can usually find the bubble level.

3:00 AM - Geezil decided to pitch a fit. Stopped pulling images from Popeye. Reboot needed.

3:40 AM - Geezil decided to pitch another fit. Stopped pulling images from Popeye. Reboot needed.

3:45 AM - Spyder's cooler turned itself off. Not sure how. Students didn't notice until images started to come back with a lot of noise.

5:00 AM - Cover Position moved the telescope too low, almost hit the yellow lamp. Then the telescope refused to return to Park Position, had to do that manually.

Geezil hanged on shutting down, and in the afternoon found it was still trying to shut down.  A hard reset fixed it and the files were all there, and upon shut down it was instant.  Keep this in mind if it doesn't shut down right away.

Groceries: Plenty of leftover coffee.

Weather: Weather is windy and a little hazy, but otherwise clear skies.

7/21/15

Issues: Dead rat smell better. Dead rat smell is mostly contained to the Rat Room now, rather than lingering everywhere else. Considerable improvement.

Computer Quirks:

12:00 AM - After slewing to the Bubble Nebula, student wanted to center the nebula, but the telescope refused to jog properly. Attempted to center manually and failed. Moved on to other objects.

4:00 AM - Student wanted to try Bubble Nebula again. This time the jogging worked and we were able to center the nebula better.

5:00 AM - Geezil failed to kill all processes. Hard shut down needed.

Weather: Extremely windy and cloudy. Clear skies after 1 AM however.

Final Thoughts

Water: Water level when we left was 15 inches.

Groceries: Plenty of plastic utensils, paper plates, paper bowls, baby wipes, and hand sanitizer. Didn't see anything that needed replacing. If the dead rat smell persists after the scented oil in the Glade PlugIns is gone, maybe consider bringing refills.

Computer Quirks:

When signing in on Geezil, sign in as MRO, not Guest.

If you need to reboot GTCC, it might be a good idea to reboot Geezil too. I think most of our Geezil problems on the first night was due to that.
