Job Description: The troop Librarian oversees the care and use of troop books, pamphlets, magazines, audiovisuals, etc. He checks out these materials to Scouts and leaders and maintains records to ensure that everything is returned. He may also suggest the acquisition of new literature and report the need to repair or replace any current holdings.
Attendance: You are expected to attend at least 66% of troop meetings and activities. You must contact the ASPL if you are not going to be at a meeting. If will not be at a meeting, delegate your responsibilities to another Scout.
Notes: The Troop Library contains Merit Badge Books and other Scouting related books for Troop use as well as books of historical value. All together the library is a troop resource worth hundreds of dollars. The Librarian manages this resource for the troop. At each meeting, you must ensure the library is available to the troop to check out books. You should be familiar with the guidelines for checking out and returning the books and follow-up on late returns. You must inventory the Library at least once during your tenure. You are to keep records of the books and pamphlets owned by the troop, organize the library and record what materials Scouts have checked out. During the inventory, you should determine the currency of the Merit Badge books and other information and request replacements/new purchases from the Troop Committee as needed. As Librarian, you will also maintain a library of extra copies of Boys Life as available for Troop reading.
