 Spring 2023     Poetry

She Gets to Live

Latraey Brown

She IS the main character, with a story
She IS the hero
She IS the villain
She IS the complicated character, with a redemption

But she gets to live

She IS the one with the powers
She IS the one from another planet
She IS the one riding on the horse for a big entrance
She IS the final girl

And she definitely gets to live

She IS sophisticated and gifted
She IS strong and independent with a sprinkle of weakness and flaws
She IS tall, short, curvy, bulky, gorgeous and unworldly
She IS black and bold

And I want her to live

Please

Tell me

She gets to live
