 Spring 2025     Poetry

All the Globe's a Stage

Alex Gamboa

The midnight raven’s colors flit o’er Nemesis’ Realm

thusly crowds are craving crimson-stained revenge to take the helm

under Capulets’ or Cassio’s or Claudius’ name

yet in Her wooden realm of tales, the reaper glares at them the same

whether cut by sword or poisoned or by cloth is overwhelmed

for tonight disaster strikes for joy of Nemesis’ Realm

All the Globe’s a stage tonight, so entertain Her well

All their noises fall to nothing, all their eyes upon Her stage

as the chorus speaks of Montesquieus; two guards, a ghostly sage

and the puppeteer will feign concern for Venetian affairs

as he silently pulls all his strings; a war hath been declared

roaring cheers of validation for their violence and their rage

and their drama yet unfolding for revenge upon Her stage

All the Globe’s a stage tonight, so entertain us all

The hidden figures switching their personas crafted carefully

to tire, hidden from the world; return to their identity

the show must venture on, the bloody fantasies unfold

for his stories are pentagonal: three sides are yet untold

all the audience is bracing vengeance’s disaster readily

but vengeance, much like Rome, cannot be rushed but crafted carefully

All the Globe’s a stage tonight, Her realm under a spell

Somewhere in the heavens lies a smoldering piece of hell

marked by entrances of majesties when burning iron fell

when the smoke had billowed skywards and the heavens were alarmed

not a single soul alerted, still bewitched by playwright’s charm

poisoned plans of murder stir and Juliet still feigns her knell

yet only Nemesis Herself can see that smoldering piece of hell

All the Globe’s a stage tonight, the world would see it fall

When finally the great inferno burned the heavens down

Her wooden realm of tales ignited wearing fire like a gown

God himself had falsely cursed the stage by wreathing it in flame

all the world and heavens watched, despairing what it had become

then the spell had lastly broken; in the theater, none around

embers leaped from Nemesis’ Realm and burned the heavens down

All the Globe’s a stage tonight, we watched it as it fell

all the Globe’s ablaze tonight, a fiery, solemn knell

disaster truly struck, but this, the raven flag was stunned

though Rome was not built in a day, it all burned down in one

Nemesis’ Realm told stories none other could tell

it will live on in memory as if it never fell.
