The world inside a sidewalk crack,
flowers looming like trees.
Citizen ants that march in line
beneath warrior bees.
Raindrops crash down like boulders
in a torrential flood.
Green life crawls out from underneath
the vast expanse of mud.
The sun, blistering high above.
The ground begins to heat.
Ants scurry to shade, lest they burn
all their six little feet.
A glinting silver trinket
nestled deep inside the crack –
somebody’s lost treasure
they may never get back.
