Dear Avalon Readers,
We welcome you to the Spring 2025 edition of Avalon Literature & Arts Magazine! We are humbled by the outpouring of submissions from over 10 states and 15 universities. It is with great pride that we present our latest to you!
This semester brought cultivation and intention as our editors contemplated what Avalon meant to us and our community. We are honored with the responsibility of creating this space for our artists and readers.
It can be daunting as a writer to share one's work–even more so to break the mold and experiment with your chosen medium. This semester, our contributors trusted us with their ambitious experimentations in composition, themes, and language. They charged our editors with confronting the traditional principles of literature and encouraged us to explore new horizons.
The submissions this semester plumbed the depths of ekphrasis to exhibit incredible emotional range–from whimsy to nostalgia to upheaval. Our contributors utilized imagery to explore the connections between unique settings, inner lives, and unfiltered experiences. These pieces are artifacts inviting you to join their rumination.
Our editors accepted this invitation and took time to reflect on the journey of Avalon. While our journal has existed for years, much of its rich history has been lost to time. In the Spring of 2023, Dr. Udelson assumed the role of editor-in-chief, marking a new era of Avalon. He set his sights on restructuring the magazine, ensuring continuity, preserving history, and eventually training a student to replace him in his role. This journey was not an easy one, but this semester, for the first time since its genesis, Avalon was led by a student editor-in-chief.
This historic milestone marks the completion of a period of regrowth and the beginning of a new legacy for our student leaders. We hope our journal’s deep roots continue to expand and flourish into the greater literary community. We cherish our returning supporters, eagerly welcome our new readers, and treasure each connection we make working on Avalon. With that, we proudly present the Spring 2025 edition!
