 Spring 2023     Poetry

A Life of Fiction

Peter Smetanick

To tell a story is an art,
But I’m not sure it should symbolize something from the start.
I can simply show the scene
And let the characters breathe.
Finally, I’ll see
What it all really means to me.

But are the people real,
And do they make you feel,
Anything at all?
Do the words touch you,
Or maybe even change you?

It’s all these moving pictures – memories and visions running through my head.
They scream and shout to be let out!
To live upon the page before I’m dead.
