Giving In

Ever Krikorian

Take the biggest part of me
And fit it in the palm of your hand.
Squeeze until it’s close to bursting:
If it holds, you know it’s good.

Save it for a hot summer’s day,
When it’s something you really crave,
And take a bite as it thuds away,
Juice running down your chin.

Its pulse flutters weakly against your lips,
And you smile wide, with teeth stained red.
Your fingers burrow in a bit deeper:
You always enjoyed watching things die.
