 Spring 2023     Poetry

Young Black Bunny

Latraey Brown

Young Black Bunny, so fruitful and spry
You always seem to catch many eyes

Hopping around to and fro
Not caring on who may know

Young Black Bunny

You’re selfish for your unknown freedoms

Or

Are you open to your knowledge of anxiety and doldrums

Young Black Bunny

Do we really know who you are
Or do we assume to know who you will be

Or maybe,

Young Black Bunny

You don’t know either,
Do you?

You take such elegant, cautious steps
Even though, you shouldn’t have any worries in your future

Young Black Bunny

Having so many obstacles before you
Feeling betrayed by a few

Even with the help of some
You still feel the lingering of skepticism

Young Black Bunny
You have been warned by the devilish wiles
Of the outside world

The world can care for you
In her most poisonous ways

Be careful Young Black Bunny

For you must grow and mature
To protect yourself

That paining headache that occurs
Is just your horns birthing through your fur

Your blood is your own strength
And your horns growing more with great length

Young Black Bunny

Still remember your ways of kindness
Because many will try and take advantage

But, will hurt themselves in the process
For now

Young Black Bunny

You are a gentle and friendly monster

A Letter to my Parents
