Create and share a study guide....you can use it on the test.
While it is ok to work as a pod, each person must have his or her own notes for the test.
Study Guide

How do you find theme?
If you had to make a study aid for someone who has never heard of theme, what guiding questions would you ask?
What is a thesis statement? Notes/Handouts Section)
What are the necessary components of a thesis statement?
If you had to make a study aid for someone who has never heard of a thesis statement, what guiding questions would you ask?
Review “The Drummer Boy of Shiloh," and fill in a plot chart of events. Use the notes on pages 20-27 to identify elements of the story that fit each stage of the plot development. (HINT: Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution)
Review page 26, and understand how setting, character development, and conflict help with story exposition.
(IF you have NOT completed the Writing Prompt assignment on page 27, I suggest you do so before Wednesday.)
Review the steps of TPCASTT, and your notes on "Moco Limping” and “A Man.” Be sure to review the side notes on the pages.
Practice TPCASTT on the following poem. (Compare, not copy, your notes with a pod mate.)
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
I will collect the TPCASTT of "Harlem" with the test Wednesday.

Mother to Son
Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I’se been a-climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back.
Don’t you set down on the steps
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
