Read “A Blessing in Disguise” on page163.
Complete the RAFT chart on page 161 and identify the main arguments for each.
Which of the two pieces is most persuasive? (Explain your answer.)
What are the main arguments put forth in each? Identify the type of appeal used most. Include textual support for your answer.
What do you think is the middle ground or compromise for this issue? What do you think the two authors could agree on? Explain your answer.

Brainstorm a list of issues you see around the school that might be effective topics for a persuasive essay.
Select one of the issues you listed, locate some reliable sources, and record the information that includes quotations from that source. Use the example on page 165 of your Springboard to guide you.
Once you have collected this information, you will need to create debate statements that incorporate your evidence.
