DGP – The great verb hunt!
“The Great Rat Hunt” Collaborative Essay Contest
Write a collaborative essay about a theme from Laurence Yepp’s “The Great Rat Hunt.” (A copy is in the Notes/Handouts section of my web page.) If you miss these days, you will need to write an independent essay.
I will post the essay for each class period. There will be a winner!

A character’s motivation is the reason why he or she acts, feels, or thinks a certain
way. Sometimes a character’s motivation is explained or directly stated in the text.
Other times you will have to infer, or draw a conclusion about, the character’s
motivation. As you read “Checkouts,” use the chart below to note the motivations of
the boy and the girl.
Follow Up: For each motivation you explain in your chart, jot down clues from the
text that helped you understand the motivation.
