Why Coding?
In the spirit of using computers as "smart" devices it is important to have a better understanding about how computer language works. Whether it's using formulas in Excel, shortcuts in Word, or writing code everyone can benefit from learning how to "talk to the computer" and tell it what to do. The reality of the video above is that writing code is not hard to learn, it just takes time. Why not try learning to write code and gain enrichment / Extra Credit points for your IT grade? Maybe you will find out how easy it is and get turned on and tuned in to something you could pursue further in electives in HS or even go on to study in college or train for a career. The tutorials and projects are not long or difficult-- you might be surprised how easy it is!

Coding for Extra Credit
You may work on any exercises you wish for extra credit on free time in class when you finish your required classwork early. You may also access Codecademy at home on your free time. For every 2 points you earn in Codecademy, you earn 1 point EC for the MP. If you have more points than you need to receive a 100 for the MP, the extra points will be used on the next MP. You may continue to build EC points until the last day of class.
For EC to count for a MP, you must have completed every regular classroom assignment with a minimum grade of 70% or "Late." If you miss an assignment or receive lower than a 70, you must complete it and email your instructor to recheck it. Your grade for the assignment will not change but will recorded as "Late" in PS. You may use up to 40 Codecademy points per marking period.Â
Submission
You need to submit two (2) screenshots to receive extra credit: an initial screenshot when first creating your account and another screenshot at the end of each marking period. We will complete the first screenshot as a class; you will be responsible for the screenshot at the end of each marking period.
You MUST have submitted the baseline (first) screenshot in order to receive extra credit.
