Students will be signed up for the instructors Google Classroom, Remind free texting line for either their phone or school email.
Part 1/ Codecademy
Create an account for Codecademy. Once you have created your account, take a screenshot as per the directions in the hyperlink above.
Part 2/ Create a customized OTHS logo for your Google Classroom and other OT profiles:
In order to represent yourself as part of the school community (when using your school accounts), you will now create a logo that you will use on your oceanschools.org Google accounts (and across other platforms as well).
Watch the video below to use Canva to create a customized OTHS logo. Remember, although you do have options in the creation of this logo, it MUST be clear to anyone seeing it that it is related to the school. You must use some combination of the school colors (red, blue, and white) -you may only use two of those. You must have a Spartan or Spartan head visible (below is the official school Spartan Head) or a transparent Block O. You must also have your name and "Class of 20__" visible.
Create a "Custom Size" by clicking the button on the right hand side. You should create it as 2560 x 2560 PX.
Here is the Official OTHS Spartan Head Logo if you would like to use that option mentioned in the video. Right click (click with 2 fingers on chrome book) and click "Save image as..." to save to your Downloads folder. You can now upload in Canva.
Once you are done customizing your logo, you should click "Share" in the top right hand corner and download it as a .png file with a solid background.
Upload that .png as your Google profile picture.
Back up the .png by storing it in Google Drive.
Submission
Your Spartan logo will appear as your Google profile logo. Your instructor will award these points from seeing your Classroom profile pic. Logo picture must follow guidelines and be appropriate as an OTHS logo.
Part 5/ Instagram
If you have an Instagram, be sure to follow OTSpartanLegacy for school news, happenings, sports updates, and more. Also, follow, Ms. Weldon at @Homeofthespartans
Part 6/ Spartan Spirit Website & Spartan Update Youtube
Check out our OTHS online student newspaper, The Spartan Spirit. Bookmark it and check back regularly for school news and multimedia entries about our school.
Log into Youtube using your oceanschoools.org email address and subscribe to the Spartan Update YouTube Channel.
Part 7/ School Twitter
Responsible Social Media
Go to Twitter and create a new account that is only for school. You will only need to follow school twitter feeds and do not need to post at anytime. After you receive the points for the lesson, you may keep your twitter private so that no one else can follow you or delete the account . . . make sure you have received the points in PS first though!
For full name you may use your real name, but if you have already have a Twitter account you may need to use your school computer logon or computer logon + oths (for example- 16smithj or 16smithjoths) depending on availability issues.
For an email address, use your oceanschools.org email.
For a Username, use your school computer logon + oths (for example-20smithjoths) depending on availability issues-- You need to be clearly identifiable to me to get the points.
Password is your choice, but since this is for school we suggest you use the same password that you use to logon to school computers.
Once you have created the account, upload your Spartan logo picture (from the classroom signup exercise).
Search and follow the following school accounts: @tryan_OT, @OTSpartanLegacy, @jimstefank, @MrsDKaszuba, and @MSKWeldon (let your parents know about these feeds as they are welcome to follow as well).
Other optional feeds to follow include. to receive points you must follow only reputable OT feeds. I will check who you are following on this account . . . no feeds can be unrelated OT education feeds; remember, the point of the exercise is to teach you to SEPARATE YOUR PRIVATE AND PUBLIC LIFE
In order to receive full credit you must take a screen capture of your account showing who you have followed and post in in google classroom.
