What Do Employers Look For?
Step 1/ Explore Careers of Interest
If Naviance assessments look incomplete when you know you have finished them please reload the web page.
Open your Do What You Are results (under the about me / about me tab. It should read 100% at this point) in Naviance. Under Self-Discovery select "Personality" under and then select See All Career Recommendations on the bottom(scroll down). If you like what you see under the tabs, select the heart icon. Feel free to investigate further before "favoriting" by clicking on the title link and looking over Overview, Knowledge and Skills, Tasks and Activities, and Wages.
Navigate to your Career Interest Profiler results (also under Self-Discovery). Select See All Career Recommendations on the bottom. Examine these careers the same way you did above and also "favorite" the ones you like the most.
Explore careers on your own in. Select the Career tab, Explore Careers or Explore Clusters, and Pathways and use the available search options to uncover careers you are thinking about that were not saved yet. Add to favorites the same way you have previously.
Step 2/ Make a Career Choice
Pick a career of choice that you found saved in you favorites (Located by clicking on Careers / Favorite Careers and Clusters and demonstrate an understanding about the career . . . to do this, open the Career Choice form shared with you in Google Classroom.
Step 3/ Answer the Questions on the Document.
To find relevant information you will need to use 3 databases to find their share of information:
Go to the OPALS page and use the MackinVIA.
Search for Fergusen's Career Guidance Center in the upper right corner
Use the username: oths and password: Library to sign in and search for your career at the top. Select the first option in results.
Open a profile of the same career in Naviance (saved in your Naviance favorites in the previous lesson)
Sign in to NJCAN. Use the free user login. First select the NJ Resident tab. Select your town and put in your Zip Code. Open a career profile of your choice by selecting the Occupations, What can I learn about occupations?, Occupations and use the alphabetical list to find your career and open the profile (or the black Search tab).
