Course Overview


   The goal of the FDMS NJROTC program is to teach and instill the values of citizenship, service to the United States of America, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.  In general, the curriculum is meant to provide a balance of classroom studies, military performance, physical fitness, and unit activities.  The course will include numerous field trips and service-learning activities.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:


Naval Knowledge, Leadership, and Nautical Skills for the NJROTC Student Textbook:


  • a. Understand the basic concept of Sea Power and how it relates to world affairs.

  • b. Learn the history of United States strategy in world affairs.

  • c. Explain the national security planning process.

  • d. Illustrate the role of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines.

  • e. Define the role of naval operations, communications, intelligence, logistics, and research/development.

  • f. Differentiate the basic principles of military law and civil law.

  • g. Expound life aboard the ship and its organization.
