Week of Oct. 26-30

October 30:

Math: Another great day of math! We saw how much easier division can be when it asks us to round; we just have to be careful concerning what number to round to. I am excited for the Quiz on Thursday!

Science: Your ideas on recycling items were really good! If you get a chance, bring in something from home that you turned into a new object.

October 29:

Math: The work today was really good! When you know your facts, long division and multiplication become so much easier. Keep working hard!

Science: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We mentioned that to Reduce is to us less of a resource, to Reuse is to use an object over again, and to Recycle is to turn old objects into new objects. Check out the video on the Three Rs:

October 28:

Math: Some of us struggled today with the long division problems. Make sure that when you divide that you keep finding groups until you go over the number you divide. Remember when you see, "How many _______ will he NEED to get ALL of the _________ in a car, van, box, etc...", you have to add one more package, box, car, etc. to your quotient. We will keep practicing.

Science: I loved hearing your responses regarding which resource is the most important to conserve (save). Those short articles were a great way to help us learn more about what we can do to conserve our resources.

October 27:

Math: Your work on long division was outstanding today! Not only are you solving for the quotients, but you are multiplying back and adding the partial products to check your work! Keep up the great work on the independent practice tomorrow.

Science: The Renewable/Nonrenewable card sort was a great way to check for your understanding and a great way to justify to each other why you placed the resources in the specific category. The Moon Project was a blast! Talking with each other and justifying why you would take certain resources over others was really exciting to hear! We will complete it tomorrow.

October 26:

Math: The area model with long division is becoming easier and easier to complete thanks to your hard work! Next week's quiz will be 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication and long division. Please keep practicing the math facts and drawing area models for these operations.

Science: The Energy Kids Web Quest is due on Friday if you would like an extra grade. We looked at both Renewable and Nonrenewable resources today. Use the diagram ww.go-soaps to remember the Renewable resources and ring.com to remember the Nonrenewable resources.
