Week of May 2-6

Monday, May 2:

Math: You did an amazing job on the April Checkpoint! Keep working hard to prepare for next Monday!

Science: A food web is a diagram that shows the flow of energy through multiple chains in an ecosystem. The food webs that you generated were excellent! Don't forget to label producer, consumer, predator, prey, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore when given a food chain to help you solve the questions.

Tuesday, May 3:

Math: Your work on the reviews and your support of each other throughout has been wonderful! Please continue to work on the reviews that you take home.

Science: The "How Wolves Changed Rivers" video was really interesting! It showed how introducing an organism into an ecosystem can dramatically change the ecosystem for the good and possibly for the worse.

Wednesday, May 4:

Math: Keep up the great work! Believe in yourself, because I believe in you!

Science: The Prairie Ecosystem Gizmo showed how much an ecosystem can change even from just one organism increasing or decreasing. We also saw how over time, if nothing else disturbs the environment, the ecosystem will return to a balanced state.

Thursday, May 5:

Math: You are ready for the Math STAAR! I am so excited to see how much knowledge you will show on Monday!

Science: Today, we saw how a rapid change, such as a forest fire, can lead to a very slow change in the ecosystem returning to its former state. This is called succession. Your drawings of the forest one month, one year, 5 years, and 10 years after the fire was a great way to show how even though plants are renewable, it will take several years or even decades to return to its former state.
