Week of March 7-11

Thursday, March 10:

Math: The checkpoint proved more difficult than we probably imagined, but many of you still did well on it! Be sure to always label what kind of angle you may be looking for, and don't forget the vocabulary.

Science: We took a look at different types of plants and their characteristics to determine the ecosystem in which they may be found. Tomorrow we will look at plant adaptations and they use them to help them survive.

Wednesday, March 9:

Math: You are ready for the checkpoint tomorrow! You worked very well with each in the random groups, and I know that you will show amazing work! Don't forget to label every picture that they provide, and don't forget to draw your own if a picture is not provided.

Science: We had a great time working on the experiment that our Australian friends sent us yesterday! The sets of data from both classes were pretty consistent, and it was great experience in learning how to work with one another. I will be adding the padlet to the website soon!

Tuesday, March 8:

Math: Today, we learned about COMPLEMENTARY and SUPPLEMENTARY angles. Remember that these angles do not have to be ADJACENT (angles that share a common vertex and a common ray and do not overlap), but in 4th grade, we will only solve for complementary and supplementary angles that are adjacent.

COMPLEMENTARY

Square Corner

90 degrees

"It is RIGHT to give a COMPLEMENT!"

SUPPLEMENTARY

Straight Angle

180 degrees

Science: The inherited traits, inherited behaviors, and learned behaviors board game you played today was a fun way to think about these characteristics! You had great conversations, and it helped you to more fully understand the concept.

Monday, March 7:

Math: Remember that when determining the measure of an angle in the middle of a protractor, label where the rays of the specified angle cross the protractor and either count the hops from one ray to the other or subtract the smaller number from the larger. You can use the bottom numbers, but it may be easier to use the top numbers since they are in ascending order from left to right.

Science: Inherited behaviors are like instincts (how to fly, how to build a nest, how to dig, etc.); learned behaviors are actions that do not come naturally (a dog learning to sit, learning to play the piano, a parrot learning certain phrases, etc. ).
