Week of Sept. 21-25

September 25:

Math: I am so impressed with how well you worked today with partners and groups to solve multi-step problems using strip diagrams and equations. The dialogue that I heard with both classes was truly outstanding! When you cam explain it, you have learned it! I am very excited to go into tougher multiplication and division problems in the next few weeks. Keep practicing the math facts daily.

Science: Going over the unit test was definitely an eye-opening experience for all of us. Even though there was a coupl of questions that were truly difficult, most of the questions were those that we could answer without any real problem. Once again, you have to read carefully, show your knowledge by writing notes and labeling pictures, and eliminating any answer choices that are incorrect. Continue to study daily so that we can be prepared for Unit 2.

September 24:

Math: Multi-step problems tend to throw a twist at us. At first, it may seem like there is extra information that we can eliminate, but upon closer reading, we see that there are several steps to the problem and not just one. Once again, finding the main idea and drawing a strip diagram is critical to solving the problem correctly.

Science: The Unit Test was certainly a challenge for many of us. Remember that you are completing the test on your own without reading assistance from me. Continue to study every day, and work hard in class so that you can understand the concepts on a deeper level.

September 23:

Math: If we don't know how many items go into EACH box, table, package, etc., we are really trying to find out how many in ONE. "Each andEvery One is Perfect" Be sure to draw a strip diagram to help you understand what action and operation you will need to use in order to solve the problem.

Science: The Vocabulary Quiz went really well! I am proud of those who have studied and who read the definitions carefully. The Unit Test may be more difficult, but I know that if you will underline the question, circle key words, label pictures, write out what you know, eliminate incorrect answers, and check your work that you will be successful!

September 22:

Math: Knowing what action and operation to utilize when reading word problems will greatly help in solving for the right answer. Make sure to read the entire problem, and focus on what the question is asking. Some words may mean one thing in one problem and something else in another.

Science: Make sure to focus on the concepts of patterns of the moon phases, shadows, and tides. Read each question carefully, underline the question, circle key words, label pictures, write out what you know, and eliminate wrong answers and you will do well on the Unity Test!

Math: We are now moving into multiplication and division. Using the action poster wheel will help in understanding what operation to utilize for each problem.
