Week of Nov. 2-6

November 6:

Math: We started our 21-day lesson on Fractions today. Remember that unit fractions are fractions that have a numerator of 1. We also saw that fractions can be decomposed in numerous ways.

Science: Here is the chant to help us remember the slow changes to earth: Weathering Breaks Rock, Erosion Takes Rock,Deposition Drops Rock.

November 5:

Math: I am so proud of so many who did an amazing job on the Math Quiz! You worked hard, put forth the effort, and it paid off! Congratulations!

Science: We watched the Bill Nye video on how sand and wind can cause weathering. Weathering Breaks Rock.

November 4:

Math: I am so proud of how hard many of you worked on the mixed practice! Remember to read the questions carefully, show your work, check your work, and bubble carefully, and you will be successful!

Science: The water retention of soil lab was interesting. We saw that Clay soil will retain (hold) the most amount of water, while sandy soil will retain (hold) the least amount of water. Check out the video below:

November 3:

Math: The mixed practice today had some tough questions, but you did not give up! We will complete it tomorrow to be ready for the quiz on Thursday.

Science: It was fun looking at the soil samples today and going outside to collect our own sand! Remember that clay will retain the most water, and sand will allow most of the water to pass through.

November 2:

Math: The estimation long division problems were excellent! Multi-step problems can be tricky; just make sure you read the question carefully, and do not get rid of extra informtion when you actually need it.

Science: The construction paper soil model was a great way to help us remember what soil is made of. Having students act as water and air going through the different types of soil was a great visual for us to remember how much water each soil retains.
