GUIDELINES

[Category and Overview] Published haiku books (haiku history, theory, individual haijin, collection of articles, haiku textbooks etc. but excluding magazines) since the end of WWII, and published or unpublished haiku anthologies (general or authors' own poems), plus serious and sizable individual papers on haiku.

The most important criterion is how much a particular work has contributed, or is likely to contribute, significantly to the development of world haiku. Works written by the deceased can also be presented by their remaining family members, friends or those entrusted with their legacy. Works by living writers can be entered also by the authors' friends or anyone else who strongly recommend and nominate them with a short article as to the reasons for the recommendation (500-1000 words). All copies must be sent to my address by post (see below). Electronic copies are not accepted.

There will be only one monetary prize but other nine top quality works will be mentioned with a token prizes in kind. This may also be used and referred to by WHC Chairman in his forthcoming public lecture in the autumn in Japan, reviewing the world haiku scene in the post-war period to this day.

[Language] English (Works originally written in non-English languages must be translations in English. Other languages will not be considered)

[Standards & Quality] Highest standards and quality will be sought in this competition.

[Eligibility & Copyright]Open to everybody in the world.

By submitting your works, you shall be deemed to have agreed to give permission that the works may be used in WHC’s announcement, publication or any other use which WHC deem fit. Any work in breach of these requirements, or any other normal practice of international haiku contests, including those under WHC, which WHC deem reasonable, will be rejected and prizes awarded will be rescinded.

[Where to send] Send a copy of the work you are submitting by snail mail to: The World Haiku Club HQ, Leys Farm, Rousham, Bicester, OX25 4RA, UK.

[Deadline] Monday 28 October 2013 (Midnight your local time, or postmark).

[The Award and Announcement of the results] The results will be announced both in the Winter issue of World Haiku Review, and in the WHC News.

There will be the Award winner, two runners-up, and seven honourable mentions. The R. H. Blyth Award will be conferred to the Award winner only in the sum of 500 British Pounds minus the money transfer charges (e.g. if the charges are 20 pounds, the winner will receive 480 pounds).
